With a mix of Irish Folk and Americana, Karen, Joleen and Lorna – collectively known as The Henry Girls will be bringing their new album to Ballinasloe on Friday, 19th July.

The soaring title track of The Henry Girls’ new album goes some way to capturing the essence of the Donegal trio. The a capella ‘Far Beyond the Stars’ harmonious and ethereal liltings, lift the listener to a new plane and makes one realise that even without using their multi-instrumental talents, the three McLaughlin sisters have the power to deliver a stunning track with their voices alone.

Elsewhere throughout their latest album, fiddle combines beautifully with harp, double bass with accordion, ukulele with acoustic guitar as Karen, Lorna and Joleen further tap into what has become their own sound, based as it is in roots folk, elements of country, Irish and Americana. The mixture of these ingredients, combined with the sisters’ intuitive understanding of each other’s melodious vocals, has resulted in their finest collection of songs to date in Far Beyond the Stars.

Lyrically, some deeper matters are unearthed in songs such as ‘Ocean of War’, highlighting displacement and an ongoing refugee crisis on Europe’s borders, and the introspective and questioning ‘No More Maybes’. These musical sentiments take their place beside moving ballads such as ‘More Love, More Silence’ and ‘Slow Down’ and the more raucous and upbeat ‘Rebel Girl’ and ‘Don’t Call Me Honey’.

Following their widely lauded previous album, Louder than Words, The Henry Girls set about cementing their reputation internationally with several tours of Europe and the US, while seeing their Irish audience continue to grow steadily. Flawless live shows have yielded a loyal fan base both home and abroad and with Far Beyond the Stars, The Henry Girls have delivered an album of huge musical prowess set to define their unique sound and lift them to the level of their peers and inspirations.

There are poignant words that conclude the penultimate track on the album, ‘Satisfied Mind’, which must apply to a band who have completed an album where nothing was left behind:

“But one thing’s for certain, when it comes to my time.
I will leave this old world, with a satisfied mind.”

Paddy Casey returns to The Pillar House

Paddy Casey Live Music The Pillar House

Paddy Casey, the Crumlin musician, is facing his busiest year yet in 2017 following his latest single release ‘Everything Must Change’ last November which hit over 21,000 views on YouTube in a matter of weeks. He makes a welcome return to The Pillar House Folk Club after two years and this intimate venue will again fill to capacity on Friday 24th March at 9pm.

Paddy has been on the forefront of the Irish music scene since his debut album “Amen (So Be It)” in 1999, while his second release ‘Living’ became the biggest seller in Ireland, out-selling even Irish rock legends U2.
In 2007 Paddy felt he needed to take a break from the recording having released albums, singles & demos non-stop since he became a name on the Irish music scene back in ‘99 – with barely a day off in almost a decade. Following his five year hiatus he returned with his fourth studio album ‘The Secret Life Of’ in 2012.

In 2014 Paddy Casey released a compilation album of his best and most loved hits to date ‘Best Of Paddy Casey’ which had been highly anticipated by his loyal and continuously growing fan base – receiving fantastic acclaim.

Having headlined this year’s Temple Bar Tradfest in January his diary for 2017 is filling up fast with gigs planned for the Emerald Sounds Festival in London also in March as well as another headliner in Whelan’s of Dublin in May.

Will 2017 see a new album from the popular Dublin Singer/Songwriter? Hopefully so ! Tickets for The Pillar House gig are available from www.thepillarhouse.ie or by calling 090 96 43939.
