The 3rd Annual Larry Reynolds Irish Music Weekend

Friday 9th – Sunday 11th September 2016

The 3rd Féile Cheoil Larry Reynolds takes place in Ballinasloe from Friday 9th to Sunday 11th September.  A weekend which was established to commemorate the life of Larry Reynolds but also to promote the East Galway Style of Music and to encourage and develop Irish Music, Heritage and Culture in the region. It promises to be a weekend of “Cheoil, Craic, Cultúr agus Spraoi”.

Highlights of the weekend include a Concert in Ballinasloe Town Hall featuring The Alan Kelly Gang with Eddi Reader, it promises to be a superb fusion of Irish & Scottish Traditional Music. Tickets are €15 and can be booked on-line at   LINK.

There will Music, Traditional Singing & Sean Nós Dance workshops at various venues in the town with some of the finest tutors in the business, a Photo Exhibition of “Ballinasloe Then & Now”, Craft Exhibitions on the street, an Irish Music Pub Trail, an Historical Walking Tour of Ballinasloe, A Lecture on The East Galway Style of Music in Ballinasloe Town Library presented by Vera Craughwell, a Céilí in Hayden’s Hotel with the Glenside Céilí Band, a Junior Session in The Dunlo Tavern, as well as many other trad seisiún during the weekend.   See (LINK FOR FESTIVAL EVENTS) for full details of the weekend’s events.

For the first time Féile Cheoil Larry Reynolds will host an Open All-Ireland Fiddle Competition which has a prize fund of €250 with the Larry Reynolds Perpetual Trophy for 1st Place and a Trophy for 2nd Place.

The presentation will be followed by a Lecture on the East Galway Style of Music by Iomar Barrett and will be complemented by tunes from members of Ballinasloe Comhaltas Branch. At 3pm there will be a guided historical walking tour of Ballinasloe from Crumbs and Cream Coffee Shop at the end of Main Street (Advance Booking essential – 087 9046140).


The Pillar House will offer Traditional Music Sessions throughout the day and well into the evening with musicians such as Patsy Hanly, Roisín Broderick, Gerry Hanley, Gerry Harrington, Bobby Kilkenny and Frank Hession.   All musicians, dancers, story tellers and singers are heartily welcome to join the sessions.


On Sunday afternoon there will be a monster Céilí in Gullanes Hotel with dancing to the rousing and foot stamping Salamanca Céilí band. There will be a chance to brush up on your set dancing that morning with instruction from members of Club Damhsa and Sean Nós – so there’ll be no excuse not to get out on the floor for at the very least a Siege of Ennis !


At 1pm in The Pillar House there will be a Singers Circle led by Johnny Johnston followed by more Music Session which will go on throughout the day and well into the evening bringing about a conclusion of the weekends festivities.   The perfect way to end a great weekend !
