Freddie White – Friday 15th May, Pillar House Folk Club

The Folk Club’s May gig is with the inimitable Freddie White. He has long been synonymous with music of the highest quality. Whether interpreting songs by his favourite writers, such as Randy Newman, Tom Waits, John Hiatt and Guy Clark or performing his own classy compositions, Freddie’s live performances are nothing short of legendary, a sentiment which has been echoed many times by his Ballinasloe fan base since this date has been announced. His Ballinasloe gigs of the late early 80’s in, what was then, Kenny’s Riverside Inn hold incredible memories for those who attended

He has been part of the fabric of the live music scene in Ireland since the 1970’s and his albums continue to sell well, amongst both his loyal and newfound fan base

Born in Cobh, County Cork in to a musical family, by age thirteen Freddie was playing in school bands and by seventeen playing he was playing professionally. Within a couple of years he moved to London where he busked in subways and developed his own unique voice and guitar style.

In the early 70’s he was a founding member of “Scullion”, together with Philip King and Sonny Condell before going solo with The Freddie White Band. In 1978 he and the band toured with Eric Clapton.

His debut album “Live on Tour” brought him to national attention, while his second album released in 1981 was one of the best selling Irish albums of that year. In 1985 “Long Distance Runner” was released which featured his hit single “Frozen Heart” and his three successful subsequent albums were all self-penned while his most recent album was Co-Produced by Freddie and Declan Sinnott who played the Pillar House Folk Club last November. Tickets are now available for Freddie’s gig on Friday, 15th May and have already begun to sell well for what will be a sell-out concert.

Tickets are available from The Pillar House. Tel: 090 96 43939 / 087 9046140. All tickets for the Folk Club are €20 and each concert begins at 9pm.

A Woman’s Heart – Eleanor McEvoy comes to The Pillar House

Having already this year played host to two superb gigs by Declan O’Rourke and Brian Kennedy, The Pillar House Folk Club intimate 80 seat venue is gearing up for its next Folk Club Guests, this time Eleanor McEvoy on Friday, 17th April.

Tickets are available from The Pillar House, Tel: 090 96 43939 / 087 9046140 and are €20

Ireland’s internationally acclaimed singer-songwriter Eleanor McEvoy released her latest album ‘STUFF’ on the Moscodisc label on 12th May, 2014.

An eleven-track miscellany,” Stuff” tell tales of unrequited love, lust and eloquent farewell; a heady brew of caustic observation laced with wit and wry self-deprecation typical of multi-instrumentalist McEvoy, all delivered in the Irish star’s rich, lilting voice.

Formerly a session musician, including a long stint with The National Symphony Orchestra, she decided whilst, with The Mary Black Band, that she should cash in the savings and develop her own career. One week her lifechanged when Mary’s label owner heard Eleanor play a self-penned song that would give a name and title track to the all woman compilation album… ‘A Woman’s Heart”, Ireland’s best selling album.

Eleanor’s performances are intimate, emotional, uplifting affairs in which she explores soul, love and humour, using own compositions and interpretations from other songbooks, with her unique voice and beautiful playing and no doubt The Folk Club audience in The Pillar House are in for a real treat on Friday 17th April.

MATT KEANE, Monday 29th December

We will be delighted to welcome MATT KEANE  to The Pillar House on Monday 29th December.  We would love you to join us for what will be a great night of song, music & entertainment.

Matt is one of the renowned Keane family from Caherlistrane in Co. Galway and like his siblings has been singing all his life. “It was a very natural thing” he says. “We didn’t learn music at all, we absorbed it.”

He is a curious mixture of devilment and determination, quick witted and humorous both on and off stage and it will be a great night to look forward to over the Christmas Holiday.
