The Pillar House Trad Music Session
We have regular monthly Trad Sessions on Sunday evenings, see our Facebook or Instagram pages for details of the next session. These sessions are led by Roscommon native John Wynne on Flute. All musicians are welcome and each Sunday we have musicians both young and old who join in the session. John is regularly joined by another renowned Roscommon Flute player, Patsy Hanley, and they’ve even been joined by an Irish Rugby International, Robbie Henshaw on the box.
The Pillar House Session has proven to be a great way to foster confidence in young musicians who are always welcomed and encouraged. We have seen the session develop over the years and it has now become a well know date on the local Irish Music calendar.
Live Music ‘Down the Back’
When an extension was built onto what was the then yard and sheds of the Pillar House in 1971 it was called “The Lounge”, it immediately became the in place for the young crowd and it would be great to have one euro for every great memory that’s been recalled of days and nights there. Live music was a focal point then as now and band names such as Pincín, Paschal & The Shannon Breeze, Skillet Pot, Terry Benson and Ballinasloe’s own Vienna who played during the ’70s and early ’80s will evoke lots of memories
In recent years it has become known as simply “Down the Back”. From The Lounge days right through to today “Down the Back” has been the meeting for Ballinasloe’s young and trendies.
Join us for craic, cocktails and great live music from bands and DJs.
